Godot 4.7.1

Release Date: July 14, 2026

The Godot Engine team has shipped Godot 4.7.1, the first maintenance release for the 4.7 branch, addressing stability and usability issues reported by the community over the past four weeks.

Released on July 14, 2026, this update comes nearly a month after Godot 4.7 arrived, and was prepared alongside development of Godot 4.8, whose first development snapshot was released last week.

What Changed

Godot 4.7.1 is a pure maintenance release — no new engine features, but dozens of bug fixes across every major subsystem. According to the release notes, maintenance releases are expected to be safe for an upgrade, though the team recommends backups or version control before updating.

Key Fixes by Area

2D — Improved 2D editor drag-and-drop behavior for smoother asset workflows.

3D — Fixed GridMap editor cursor positioning, MeshLibrary editor handling of read-only libraries, and closed Curve3D control point issues.

Animation — Fixed the "Abort on Reset" functionality in AnimationNodeOneShot and optimized animation folding to only access config at save/load time.

Editor — Over a dozen editor fixes including: crash fixes in Project Settings when autoloads are freed, broken icon rendering when moving the FileSystem dock, debugger call stack node selection in remote scene tree, and a possible freeze when running projects with floating script editors.

Audio — Added a missing mutex unlock in the PulseAudio driver error state.

Asset Library — Fixed a zoom-mode crash in the project manager and set the default sorting to "highest scored."

Build System — Updated macOS/iOS minimum version references in plists and exporters, fixed Vulkan builds with use_volk=no, and corrected documentation status reporting.

Why It Matters

While 4.7.1 contains no headline features, it represents the kind of polish release that makes Godot a reliable production engine. With dozens of crash fixes, editor stability improvements, and platform-specific build fixes, this release is recommended for all Godot 4.7 users.

What's Next

The team is actively working on Godot 4.8, with a second development snapshot expected later this week. For users who prioritize stability, 4.7.1 is the recommended target.
