Electron 42.6.0
Electron 42.6.0 just landed, and it is not the blockbuster people were hoping for. Another patch, another round of minor fixes — but hey, at least they updated Chromium and Node.js this time.
What Actually Changed
The headline fix in 42.6.0 addresses running under tsx import transpilation (#52046). If you are using tsx to run TypeScript directly, Electron was breaking on you. That is now resolved.
Beyond that, the team backported fixes from upstream Chromium, ANGLE, Dawn, and V8 — the usual security and stability maintenance that every Electron release brings.
Stack Upgrades Worth Noting
- Chromium bumped to 148.0.7778.280 — a security-focused update with upstream patches
- Node.js upgraded to v24.18.0 — brings the latest Node runtime improvements
These are incremental changes, not headline features. But if you are shipping an Electron app to users, every minor bump adds up in terms of stability and security coverage.
The Real Question: Should You Upgrade?
If you are already on the 42.x line, there is no reason to wait. This is a low-risk patch with targeted fixes and a Chromium refresh. If you are still on 41.x or earlier, you have bigger things to worry about — Electron 43.0.0 is already out with Chromium 150, and the gap between versions grows every cycle.
Bottom line: upgrade if you are on 42.x. If you are on anything older, jump to 43.
