Xcode 27.0

Apple has shipped Xcode 27.0, released September 14, 2026 alongside iOS and iPadOS 27. This is a substantial tooling update that pushes AI assistance and agentic workflows to the front of the daily build loop.

Coding Agents Become First-Class

The headline change is agentic coding. Xcode 27 introduces coding agents powered by the model of your choice, letting the assistant plan and execute multi-step tasks across your project rather than firing off single-shot completions.

Google Gemini and the Assistant Sidebar

Google Gemini is now available as a provider inside the coding assistant, joining existing model options. The Coding Assistant gets a redesigned sidebar so you can keep chat, inline suggestions and change review open side by side while you work.

Planning with Agents

Planning is now first class in Xcode 27. Agents can outline a change set, break it into concrete steps, and present the plan for approval before touching your code. The goal is fewer surprises when a multi-file refactor runs.

Productivity and Device Hub

Beyond AI, Xcode 27 focuses on workflow customization and a new Device Hub for managing connected simulators and hardware. Combined with the Swift 6.4 compiler and the iOS 27 SDK, this is one of the biggest Xcode releases of the year.
