VS Code 1.139 is rolling out now. Released September 23, 2026, this build leans hard into multi-agent work, pushes Dev Containers onto remote hosts, and trims the fat from everyday editing.

Remote Rumble

The marquee move: agent sessions can now run in Dev Containers on remote hosts over SSH, Tunnel, and WSL. Agents build and test inside the exact environment of a project, no local toolchain required.

Session Sweep

• Large agent session lists are noticeably faster and easier to scan.
• A new compact session view tucks more conversations into view.
• Wrapping indicators make long-running agents easier to track.

Editor Ease

Beyond agents, 1.139 polishes everyday editing, trimming small annoyances so the code keeps flowing. The Copilot-generated disclaimer that appeared in last week's Stable notes has quietly been dropped.
