Kubernetes 1.37.1

Release Date: September 23, 2026

Release Overview

Kubernetes 1.37.1, published September 23, 2026, is the first patch release of the v1.37 minor series. It ships hot on the heels of v1.37.0 and carries targeted fixes without introducing dependency changes or new feature gates. For cluster operators still weighing the v1.37 upgrade, this patch is a safe entry point.

What Went Into v1.37

The v1.37 line itself brought a set of notable changes. The SELinuxMount feature gate graduated to GA and is enabled by default, so clusters with SELinux enabled should review workloads before upgrading. The DisruptionMode enum field was converted to a struct, and the scheduling.k8s.io API group moved from v1alpha2 to v1alpha3, dropping v1alpha2 entirely. Administrators must remove all v1alpha2 objects before updating the API server.

v1.37 also added Alpha support for DRA device compatibility groups, Workload-aware scheduling through the workloadbuilder library, a protocol field for HTTP/2 cleartext (H2C) probes, and CRI v1 RuntimeService RPCs for Pod-level checkpoint and restore. The default etcd version advanced to v3.7.0, and the embedded cAdvisor moved to a leaner module that no longer accepts deprecated flags.

Why This Patch Matters

Patch releases address defects found in the .0 build, so upgrading to 1.37.1 rather than staying on 1.37.0 reduces exposure to known issues. The v1.37.1 changelog lists no changed dependencies, which keeps the risk surface small and makes the patch a low-friction bump for clusters already on v1.37.

Upgrade Notes

As with any Kubernetes release, back up your etcd data, review the urgent upgrade notes, and test in a staging cluster first. If you are on v1.36, pay particular attention to the SELinuxMount GA behavior change before moving to v1.37.1.
