Astro 7.3.8
Astro 7.3.8, the latest patch release of the web framework, arrived on October 8, 2026, addressing a set of community-reported bugs and quietly swapping out a core build dependency.
What Changed
According to the release notes, the update fixes Astro.cache being undefined when a custom 404 or 500 page is rendered by the error handler, a case that could surface after a request to an API route with an HTTP method the route does not export.
The glob() loader now reloads changed files in dev when the pattern begins with an extglob, such as !(drafts)/**/*.md. The astro add command also stops removing existing allowBuilds approvals from pnpm-workspace.yaml on pnpm v11.0 through v11.22.
Why It Matters
Under the surface, the team refactored internal bundling and code transforms to use Vite's Oxc-based transformWithOxc and Rolldown in place of esbuild. As the notes put it, these packages no longer depend on esbuild directly, a step toward a leaner and faster toolchain.
What's Next
Patch releases like this one keep the 7.3 line steady. Projects running 7.3.x can update with an ordinary package manager bump and a test run.
