Android Studio 2026.1.3

I updated Android Studio to Quail 3 — 2026.1.3 — the moment it hit the stable channel, and honestly? The AI tooling is where the real work went this cycle. Verdict: if you already live in the agent-driven workflow, this one is a must-update. If you barely touch AI features, it's still a smooth, low-risk patch.

MCP Registry: The Big One

Quail 3 makes it dramatically easier to discover and install MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers. Head to Settings > Tools > AI > MCP Servers and you can now browse a marketplace of servers straight from the IDE. The Marketplace tab lists everything available on ModelContextProtocol.io, and a gear icon lets you switch to a custom registry or filter by server type — NPX, Docker, or Python.

Merge Conflicts with Agent

The Commit tool window gets a new Merge Conflicts with Agent button. When one or more files in your repository are in conflict, one click launches a fresh agent session targeted at exactly those files — no more manually feeding context about which files are broken.

Planning Mode Improvements

Planning Mode, the IDE's structured approach to letting an agent plan before it edits, has been refined in this release. The updated flow keeps the agent in read-only analysis longer and makes the plan-to-execute handoff more explicit.
